March 12, 2022 is a special day in the life of the Jesuits and the Collaborators. We, the parishioners belonging to a Jesuit parish, we commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Canonization of Ignatius of Loyola and Francis Xavier. On 12th March 1622, Pope Gregory XV, officially recognized, in the name of the Church, the quality of life and commitment of these first two Jesuit saints. They are the models for holiness.
St Ignatius of Loyola dreamt to be a soldier. But a Cannon ball strikes his right leg, shattering all his dreams. His life takes a new turn, eventually leading to the founding of the Society of Jesus. St Francis Xavier on the other hand dreamt of being an esteemed professor and an intellectual. But his encounter with St Ignatius and constantly listening to the words from the scripture," What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul" moves his heart and makes him join Ignatius as a co-founder of the Jesuit order.
After that Ignatius spent most of his time in Rome taking care of the new religious order as the superior general. While Francis Xavier, came to India and preached the gospel. Though these great friends never met again they were blessed to be canonized on the same day 400 years ago.
To mark the occasion we had a lighting of the candles before the portraits of St Ignatius of Loyola and St Francis Xavier by the main celebrant and the Children who represented the entire Parish. The main celebrants highlighted the life and mission of both the saints in the homily. At the end of the Eucharist sweets were distributed to the entire church in all the three masses.
