On 17th December 2022, a few members of the Jesuit Volunteer group paid a visit to Kolbe Home near Carmelaram as part of the Christmas outreach program. Kolbe Home is run and managed by the Prison Ministry of India. Presently Fr Francis Kodiyan MCBS is the director of this home. We came to know that the purpose of this house is to build and nurture new lives for the boys, whose parents are either in prison or single parents.
Besides providing wholesome education and life skills for these boys, the Centre also focuses on teaching basic professional skills to the older children, preparing them for mainstream jobs of their choice and assisting them in rebuilding their lives.
The Jesuit Volunteers were led by Fr. Prashanth D’Souza SJ, the group's spiritual guide and mentor. The afternoon was spent interacting with the children, distributing snacks and Christmas sweets to them. The boys staged a well-practiced Christmas program. We were inspired and challenged to celebrate Christmas in a meaningful way by our visit to the boys’ home.
